Background Info - The Doctor
The Doctor is the last Time Lord of planet Gallifrey. He is 900 years old and now travels through time and space, battling his ancient enemies like the Daleks, the Autons and Cybermen with the help of a female partner and, sometimes, a robot dog! The Doctor travels through time and space via his TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension/s In Space) machine, which is bigger on the inside than on the outside. His trusty sonic screwdriver has saved him from tight spots more than once, being capable of opening any lock, be it mechanical or electronic, except deadlock seals.
THE TIME LORDS The Time Lords are a race of people who were so powerful because of their ability to travel through time, they simply watched the universe go by. They reside on Gallifrey which was described vividly by The Doctor in Gridlock, series 3. Unfortunately, a race called the Daleks (from planet Skaro) initiated a Time War, the last great Time War, which resulted in the destruction of all the Time Lords except The Doctor, and almost all of the Daleks (almost). Ever since then, The Doctor has been travelling in his TARDIS (the only TARDIS that remains), occasionally accompanied by a female companion or, in one case, a robot dog called K9.
Extra info - Time Lords have two hearts and can regenerate themselves when close to dying, although they can choose not to regenerate if they wish (see Last of the Time Lords, series 3)
THE TARDIS The TARDIS is a living machine which is linked telepathically to its owner (ie. The Doctor). It can help with the regeneration process and used to be able to blend in with the time period before its chameleon circuit was cut. The TARDIS is powered by a black hole called the Eye of Harmony, created when a Time Lord named Omega sacrificed himself in the making. The TARDIS is virtually indestructible but must never be materialised inside itself.
The Doctor's TARDIS is currently stuck as a police phone booth, which were common around the 19th century and used specifically for calling the police. It's inside can also change to suit the current Doctor. In the past, it has contained a swimming pool, a library and even a garden. The TARDIS seems to have infinite space in its interior.
NOTE: Always carry a spare vial of mercury for the TARDIS's fluid leaks.
THE DOCTOR'S COMPANIONS The Doctor's companions have varied much, almost as much as he regenerates. His companions always seem to be female, and they help him throughout his journey through time and space. Although The Doctor keeps his feelings to himself, he fell in love with his more recent companion, Rose Tyler (Series 1 and 2), whom he saved once by kissing her to draw out the deadly power of the Time Vortex she had absorbed into himself, causing him to regenerate into the 10th Doctor (David Tennant).
In Series 3, The Doctor's companion is called Martha Jones, a doctor (a medical doctor) in training. Martha first met The Doctor as John Smith, who admitted himself into the hospital where Martha worked because of strange occurences that day. Once everything is back to normal, Martha spots The Doctor heading towards his TARDIS and watching her. She turns around for a second and turns back to find that it has disappeared! Later that night, after a party, she sees The Doctor again, observing from the corner of an alleyway. He heads down it and Martha follows him to the TARDIS. After demonstrating the truth of its time-travelling capabilities, she joins The Doctor, and he promises Martha one trip for saving him at the hospital.
THE DOCTOR The Doctor is the last of the Time Lords and has lived for 900 years. He has no real purpose in life as such, so he travels around on impulse and always seems to find trouble somewhere, which seems more common if he has a partner with him. Otherwise, he visits past events and helps in the creation (helps Benjamin Franklin discover static electricity) or simply watches those in progress.
The Doctor is summed up very nicely by Timothy in The Family of Blood, series 3: "He's...like fire and ice and rage...He's...like the night...and the storm and the heart of the sun, he's ancient and forever...he burns at the centre of time and he can see the turn of the universe. And...he's wonderful!"
THE SONIC SCREWDRIVER The sonic screwdriver was first invented by the Doctor after his first regeneration (ie. the second Doctor). It has many purposes ranging from opening all locks mechanical and electronic excepting deadlock seals to acting as a sort of scanner to determine a person's internal health/state (as seen in 42, Series 3). It can also operate parts of the TARDIS from a distance (one example is in The Parting of the Ways, Series 2).
One function that it cannot perform, is the ability to kill another life form. The laser screwdriver (invented by the Master) has this function and he uses it in The Last of the Time Lords, Series 3. The laser screwdriver seems to have no other purpose and it has not been seen to open any doors or perform any function similar to the sonic screwdriver.
Despite it's inability to injure, incapacitate or maim another, the Doctor has tried to use it to threaten others such as in World War Three where he threatens to "triplicate the flammability" of some alcohol, thus destroying himself and some Slitheens. Unfortunately, it wasn't threatening enough as the Slitheen perceive he is lying and the Doctor is forced to rethink his strategy.
The Doctor has been occasionally forced to rebuild his sonic screwdriver, often creating something similar to it but they are often given a different nickname such as the "sonic suitcase". Once, the Doctor's screwdriver was burnt out during an attempt to increase the radiation level of an X-ray by 5000%. He rebuilt it in his TARDIS and takes Martha with him in order to "road-test" it (see Smith and Jones, Series 3).

Personality Profile - Ninth Doctor
The Ninth Doctor seems to be a rather dark character with a reckless attitude towards danger and life in general (most likely the effect of the outcome of the Last Great Time War). He could be classified as a 'loner', preferring not to have company and sounding awkward in his invitation to Rose to join him on his travels. He pretends to be offhand about her travelling with him but ends up developing feelings for Rose, putting himself in danger just to save her.
This particular incarnation was far more informal than his predecessors. Like the fourth Doctor, the ninth Doctor would make jokes in the face of danger but become grim and serious when left alone. Like the sixth Doctor, he tends to be fatalistic about near-death experiences. The ninth Doctor is often impatient with humans, referring to them as 'stupid apes' and dubbing Mickey 'Mickey the Idiot'.
I have noted that the ninth Doctor's emotions seem to be almost all over the place which I attributed to after-effects of the Time War. He can be deliriously happy, extremely fatalistic, moody and morose, vengeful and angry in the space of a heartbeat. However, his emotions are more outwardly displayed and almost more violent than the tenth Doctor. The tenth Doctor is almost calm compared to the ninth Doctor.
As well as this, the ninth Doctor does not shy away from using brute force to achieve his aims. However, when it comes to destroying himself in order to destroy his most hated enemies, the Daleks, in 'The Parting of the Ways', he finds that he is too cowardly to destroy himself to save the universe. He does not seem to be able to kill himself for the sake of other people. He probably fears a similar result to that of the Last Great Time War. As such, he does not want to see any more massacres, no matter whether it is friend or foe.
Since the Doctor has just become the sole survivor of the Time War, he has demonstrated an extrememly vicious, merciless and vengeful streak against Daleks, shown in the episode 'Dalek'. So much so that even the Dalek thought that the Doctor would make a good Dalek with all his hate and anger.
The ninth Doctor has a habit of exclaiming 'Fantastic!' when events are going to plan. He is best known for his leather jacket, shaved head, monkey-like ears (which he himself comments on in 'Rose'), dark-coloured shirt/vest and black pants. Altogether, a rather darker personality than previously seen.

Series 1, Episode 1 (9th Doctor, Rose, Jackie [Rose's mother], Mickey Smith [Rose's boyfriend])
Doctor: "They're living plastic creatures. They're controlled by a relay device on the roof, which would be a problem if I didn't have this. So, I'm going to go upstairs and blow it up, and I might well die in the process, but don't worry about me - go home - go on - and have your beans on toast. Don't tell anyone about this because if you do you'll get them killed." *Shuts door* Rose: *Looking bewildered and turning to leave* Doctor: *Opening door* "I'm the Doctor, by the way. What's your name?" Rose: "Rose." Doctor: "Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!"
Doctor: *At Rose's house* "What are you doing here?" Rose: "I live here." Doctor: "What'd y'do that for?" Rose: " 'Cause I do. I'm only here 'cause someone blew up my job." Doctor: *Turning on sonic screwdriver* "I must have the wrong signal. You're not plastic, are you?" *Raps Rose's forehead* "No. Bonehead. Bye, then." Rose: *Grabbing Doctor* "You. Inside. Right now." Jackie: "Who is it?" Rose: "It's about last night. It's part of the enquiry. Give us ten minutes." Jackie: *To Doctor* "She deserves compensation." *Doctor appears* Doctor: *Sarcastically* "Oh, we're talking millions!" *Gazes around house* Jackie: *Standing up and trying to flirt* "Um...I'm in my dressing gown." Doctor: *Absently, quick glance at Jackie* "Yes, you are." Jackie: "There's a strange man in my bedroom." Doctor: *Noticing but not reacting* "Yes, there is." Jackie: "Well, anything could happen." Doctor: *Thinks for a second, trying to figure a way out* "No."
*Few seconds later* Rose: *In the kitchen, making coffee for Doctor, not seeing or hearing what's going on behind her* "We should got to the police. Seriously." Doctor: *Flipping through magazine* "That won't last. He's gay and she's an alien." Rose: "I'm not blaming you. Even if it was some sort of joke that just went wrong." Doctor: *Rifles through book* "Hmm. Sad ending." Rose: "It said on the news they found a body." Doctor: *Reads aloud from envelope* " 'Rose Tyler.' " *Looks into mirror* "Ah! Could have been worse. Look at the ears!" Rose: "...He was a nice bloke..." Doctor: *Singing* "Luck be a lady..." *Attempts to shuffle pack of cards which explode and scatter across the room* Rose: "Anyway, if we do go to the police, I wanna know what I'm saying. I want you to explain everything." Doctor: *Looking at scattered cards* "Maybe not!" *Hears scuffling* "What's that, then? Have you got a cat?" Rose: *Frowning at change of topic* "No." Doctor: *Looks behind couch. Plastic arm flies up and attempts to throttle him* Rose: "We did have, but now we just get strays. They come in off the estate." *Comes into living room, notices Doctor being strangled* "I told Mickey to chuck that out." *Doctor looking at her desperately, choking* "You're all the same. Give a man a plastic hand...! Anyway, I don't even know your name. Doctor what was it?" *Plastic hand flies off Doctor and grabs Rose's face*
Rose: "You can't just go swanning off!" Doctor: "Yes, I can. This is me swanning off. See you!"
Rose: "Who are you?" Doctor: "Told you. The Doctor." Rose: "Yeah, but Doctor what?" Doctor: "Just the Doctor." Rose: *Disbelieving* "The Doctor?" Doctor: *Waves* "Hello!" Rose: *Tries not to laugh* "Is that supposed to sound impressive?" Doctor: "Sort of."
Rose: "So what you're saying is that the entire world revolves around you." Doctor: *Immodestly* "Sort of, yeah." Rose: *Laughing* "You're full of it!" Doctor: *Repeats, smiling* "Sort of, yeah!"
*Plastic Mickey and Rose sitting at a table in a restaurant* Doctor: "Doesn't anybody want this champagne?" Mickey: *Annoyed* "Look. We didn't order it..." *Notices it is the Doctor* "Ah! Gotcha!" Doctor: *Shaking champagne and talking to Rose* "Don't mind me. I'm just toasting the happy couple. On the house!" *Opens bottle and cork flies into Mickey's forehead. The cork is absorbed into Mickey and he promptly spits it out. Rose and Doctor stare as the cork is spat out*
*Escaping from headless plastic Mickey* Rose: "Open the gate! Use that tube thing!" Doctor: *A bit miffed, correcting Rose* " 'Sonic screwdriver.' " Rose: "Use it!" Doctor: *Calmly* "Nah! Tell you what, let's go in here." Rose: *Stares as Doctor unlocks the Tardis and steps inside* "You can't hide inside a wooden box!" *Banging on door continues. Rose desperately tries to undo padlock on large gate* "He's gonna get us! Doctor!" *Runs into Tardis and closes door. Stares in shock at how big it is inside. Runs back outside and stares. Starts circling Tardis in confusion. Runs back inside as the metal door starts to break* "He's gonna follow us!" Doctor: *Calmly* "The assembled hordes of Genghis Khan couldn't get through that door. Believe me, they've tried. Now shut up a minute."
*After the Tardis has appeared next to a river* Rose: *Still annoyed at the Doctor's absent-mindedness* "If you are an alien, how come you sound like you're from the north?" Doctor: *Indignantly* "Lots of planets have a north!"
*Few moments later, having shown Rose the antiplastic* Doctor: "How can you hide something that big in a city this small." Rose: "Hold on. Hide what?" Doctor: *Looking at her as if she is dim-witted* "The transmitter! The Nestene Consciousness is controlling every single piece of plastic, so it needs a transmitter to boost the signal." Rose: "What's it look like?" Doctor: *Walks off and stands with his back to the London Eye (a ferris wheel)* "Like a transmitter. Round and massive. Somewhere slap-bang in the middle of London. A huge metal circular structure. Like a dish. Like a wheel. Close to where we're standing. Must be completely invisible." Rose: *Staring at London Eye* Doctor: *Noticing* "What?" Rose: *Inclines head towards the Wheel behind him* Doctor: *Turns, not noticing the Wheel* "What?" Rose: *Inclines head again* Doctor: *Turns and still does not notice Wheel* "What is it? What?" Rose: *Slightly exasperated and staring at Wheel* Doctor: *Turns again and finally notices* "Oh." *Grins* "Fantastic!"
*After Nestene Consciouness is destroyed* Rose: *Jokingly, to Mickey:* "Fat lot of good you were!" *Mickey cowering whimpering and pointing to Tardis* Doctor: *Standing in doorway* "Nestene Consiousness?" *Snaps fingers* "Easy!" Rose: *Trying not to laugh, a little smugly* "You were useless in there! You'd be dead if it wasn't for me." Doctor: "Yes, I would. Thank you." *Short silence* "Right, then. I'll be off. Unless, er...I don't know. You could come with me. This box isn't just a London hopper, you know. Goes anywhere in the universe, free of charge." Mickey: "Don't. He's an alien. He's a thing!" Doctor: "He's not invited."

Funny Moments - End of the World
Series 1, Episode 2 (9th Doctor, Rose)
Doctor: *Tossing a ball* "Right, then. Rose Tyler, you tell me. Where do you want to go? Backwards or forwards in time? It's your choice. What's it going to be?" Rose: *Decides randomly* "Forwards." Doctor: "How far?" Rose: "100 years." Doctor: *Pulls various leavers and turns various knobs* "There you go. Step outside those doors. It's the 22nd century." Rose: "You're kidding." Doctor: "That's a bit boring. Do you want to go further?" Rose: *Smiling* "Fine by me." Doctor: "10,000 years in the future. Step outside, it's the year 12,005. The new Roman Empire." Rose: *Laughing a bit* "You think you're so impressive." Doctor: *Indignantly* "I am so impressive! Rose: "You wish!" Doctor: "Right, then. You asked for it. I know exactly where to go." *Spins wheel to adjust time period and pumps Vortex Loop (looks like a bicycle pump) then rings bell as they land* Rose: "Where are we?" *Doctor gestures grandly towards doors with his hand. Rose grinning* "What's out there?" *Doctor refuses to say anything. Rose grins and steps outside*
*Whilst introducing all the guests* Cassandra: "But behold. I bring gifts." *Attendant brings in ostrich egg* "From Earth itself, the last remaining ostrich egg. Legend says it had a wingspan of 50 feet and blew fire from its nostrils." *Rose and Doctor looking on a little disbelievingly* "Or was that my third husband?" *Doctor laughing at Rose's expression* "Oh, no. Don't laugh. I'll get laughter lines." *Cassandra laughs. Guests look on silently. Attendants wheel in a jukebox* "And here, another rarity. According to the archives, this was called an iPod." *Rose squinting at it, slightly confused* "It stores classical music from humanity's greatest composers. Play on!" *Attendant presses play and 'Tainted Love' by Soft Cell plays. Doctor grins at Rose, starts dancing and does a head spin*
*Several attendants are pushing the Tardis* Doctor: "Oi, now. Careful with that. Park it properly. No scratches." *Attendant walks over and gives him a ticket saying 'Have a nice day'*
*Staring at Earth after having an argument* Rose: "Can't exactly call for a taxi." *Turns on mobile and tries for a signal* "We're out of range. Just a bit." Doctor: "Tell you what. With a little bit of jiggery-pokery..." Rose: "Is that a technical term, jiggery-pokery?" Doctor: "Yeah. I came first in jiggery-pokery. What about you?" Rose: *Smiling* "Nah. I failed hullaballoo." *Doctor fixes phone with Universal Roaming Device. Rose calls her mum and talks to her. After conversation she stares at the Earth, thinking.* Doctor: "You think that's amazing, you want to see the bill."
*Walking with Jabe (a tree) through the maintenance duct* Doctor: "So, what you're saying is, if we get in trouble, there's no one to help us out?" Jabe: "I'm afraid not." Doctor: "Fantastic!" Jabe: *Confused* "I don't understand. In what way is that fantastic?"
*Rushing to reprogram the sun filter* Doctor: "Anyone in there?" Rose: "Let me out!" Doctor: *Slightly annoyed* "Oh, well, it would be you." Rose: "Open the door!"
*Reprogramming the robots to expose Cassandra* Cassandra: "I bet you were the school swot and never got kissed." *Doctor raises eyebrows* "At arms!" *Her moisturisers raise their sprays* Doctor: *Faking terror* "What are you going to do? Moisturise me?" Cassandra: "With acid. Oh, you're too late anyway."
*Guests panicking as the heat levels rise* Doctor: "You lot. Just chill!"

Basically about the Doctor and Rose's relationship. More below...
When I was making this, I decided to place the clips in chronological order (i.e. Christmas Invasion-Doomsday). The clips which go back in time are grey like in memory. I synchronised the scene changes with the music as best I could. It is basically Rose's journey through life with the Doctor until she has to leave.
I hope you like it!
